Yi Xing, born Zhang Sui was a Chinese astronomer, mathematician, inventor, mechanical engineer, philosopher, Buddhist monk to the Tang Dynasty.  Hist astronomical celestial globe featured a clockwork escapement mechanism, the first in a long tradition of Chinese astronomical, the first in a long tradition of Chinese astronomical clockworks.
